Between surface and thread - an aesthetic transgression
Her work revolves around inner movement, the courage to embrace change, and the journey from the familiar into the unknown. Particularly in moments of inner uncertainty, people seek orientation - and it is precisely here that her visual language begins. Geometric forms represent clarity, structure, and stability for her; they evoke those organizing forces that operate within the chaos of every transformation.
Cala Caisa often explains that thoughts, visions, or processes do not first arise within her as language, but as forms. “Before a thought becomes a sentence, it becomes a shape within me. I transfer this shape first into my sketchbook - and then onto the canvas.” These geometric structures do not follow mathematical rules, nor are they digitally generated. They emerge as inner spaces - as mental architectures that take shape while she reflects on courage, clarity, or transformation.
In her works, she combines acrylic painting with fine, hand-stitched threads - a technique she refers to as the NeoBau Technique. Its essence lies in the dialogue between surface and line, between stability and movement. The embroidered threads form the most dynamic layer of her practice. They function like lines of light that penetrate, connect, or cut through the fields of color.
It is particularly in the interplay of light and shadow that the depth of her works unfolds. The threads respond sensitively to even the slightest change in the surrounding space. A single step to the side is enough for the artwork to reveal a new aspect. At times, the threads reflect the light and appear luminous; at other moments, they recede into shadow, allowing the painted surface to dominate. This subtle interplay of visibility and restraint creates a constantly shifting dynamic - a work that is never fixed, but unfolds in dialogue with the viewer.
For Cala Caisa, this shift in perspective is more than an aesthetic effect. It reflects the very themes she explores in life, a challenge often reveals its true potential only when one is willing to change perspective. As in her works, everyday experience shows that a single step to the side can be enough to recognize new contours, discover light within what once seemed dark, or reveal a path that had previously remained hidden.
Within her artistic logic, a line transforms into a surface, a surface into a space, a space into a path, and a path ultimately into a decision.
